Having you website validate will ensure the site renders how it should in the latest browsers. During the browser wars in the 1990's many propriety tags was introduced by the popular browsers, making it difficult for a website to look the same in different web browsers, thankfully with the introduction of XHTML (the code structure behind a website) browser have now deprecated the proprietary tags for more consistent standards.
